Christmas

In my mind, CHF's first Christmas was going to be great. Lots of presents and lights with good things to eat. As is often the case, reality went ahead with its own plans. CHF has been sick with a cold the past few weeks and on Monday was prescribed some medication. Wednesday night found him with a temperature of 104.5 (105 is when the doctor gets "excited"). After a few calls to the doctor, Tylenol and a cool washcloth, the temperature was down but throughout the night we got up to check his temperature. Thursday his fever was lower, but he refused liquid. By Thursday at 10:30pm he was still feverish and hadn't had a wet diaper in 8 hours. Another call to the doctor and we were told to go to the emergency room for dehydration if we couldn't get him up, drinking and producing a wet diaper. D and I woke him up and over the course of an hour literally used an eyedropper to get about 3 ounces of apple juice in him. Fortunately, we avoid a Christmas Eve trip to the ER. That night was also a long one with frequent awakenings. Christmas day wasn't much better - trying to get a baby to drink when he doesn't want to isn't easy. Basically this continued through Saturday and into today, though he seems to be getting marginally better and is drinking more. I hope tomorrow will find him feeling better so he can get back into his routine.

The above explains why our Christmas weekend pictures are sparse, but we did try to take a few.

Opening a gift (or going for a goldfish).

Playing with the train from Grandma and Grandpa F. By far his favorite thing; presumably because it makes a lot of noise!

We let CHF have a piece of a sugar cookie or two to try to tempt him to eat and drink. He ate it, but wasn't too interested in drinking any milk with it.
